(c) Gryph- if you repost this article, please post with a link back to my website.
OFFICIAL PINNED POST (UPDATED 9/13/2022) ****warning***** This group contains potentially offensive language, images, and humor. Those with a delicate sensitivity should turn away now...
Be sure to read the group rules- click on the About tab for a current list (or view them here: http://www.edelweissranch.com/rfsas-rules.html). You agreed to them when you joined the group. They are enforceable and we don't have much tolerance for rule-breakers.
To 'nip it in the bud' so to say, anyone here to spy for another group... welcome! We hope you enjoy the group! You won't find us shit talking here, just talking about shit (manure style). Sorry to disappoint anyone looking to stir up drama but we don't tolerate drama here. Enjoy the group!
This is a rabbit group with adult language, breeding/birthing/butchering photos, and discussions. No judgment or one right way to do things- be respectful of different methods. Debate is healthy; just don't be a dick about it. Let us repeat- DO NOT BE A DICK ABOUT IT!
Unlike SOME groups, this group DOES NOT play favorites! The rules apply to everyone, so don't be a douche canoe and you won't have a problem here. There will rarely be warnings; be a twat-waffle and you're out. Be a cunt-muffin and we'll boot your ass so fast your head will spin. Post your pictures, show off your kits of all ages, ask questions, and get to know each other. Purebreds and mutts are both welcome. No PETS.
In case the group name and description aren't making this REALLY damned obvious... NO BEING A DOUCHEBAG TWATWAFFLE! You might see things in this group that you don't agree with. Tough fucking shit! This group is worldwide and has a lot of members and is growing by leaps and bounds daily, and not everyone is going to agree. THAT'S FINE! We ENCOURAGE discussion about wire floors, tattooing, touching kits from birth, performing most emergency and/or routine medical care at home, line breeding, inbreeding, colony raising, culling, dispatching, and so on. Don't like it? Go join a pansy-ass group instead. Just because you don't agree with the way someone is raising their rabbits does NOT mean you get to be a jerkwad and go off on them about it! As mentioned before- there will rarely be warnings- you simply will be removed from the group. Your modmin team has WAY too much shit going on in their personal lives to play babysitter and make sure everyone here behaves like a mature fucking grown-up. At the same time, DO NOT BE A DICK! Educate, don't belittle. Anyone bullying, being mean, being a prick, etc will at LEAST be muted for 24 hours (if not outright removed).
If you see behavior that you think is questionable, report it to your modmin team (not to Facebook) or send this page a PM (RFSAS Admin). DO NOT HANDLE IT YOURSELF and do not engage the idiots unless you are a member of the modmin team (your modmin team members are all technically grown-ups, we promise). We do not encourage flaming battles here. We do not permit trolls. There is ZERO tolerance here. We hope we have made this group's position very clear, and if you have questions still, then ask them.
Purposeful drama and/or name-calling will result in removal. Being a bully will result in removal.
Things to be clear about: This is a teaching group, in case you haven't noticed. There are a lot of knowledgeable bunny peeps in here who donate their time, knowledge, and resources to help educate. You may not like what you're told, and when it comes down to it they are your rabbits and we can't make decisions for you. But if one of us knows you aren't doing something responsible we will speak up. That is NOT drama. That is educating. Please do not be a rude little bitch if you're told something you don't like- we will boot your ass faster than your head can spin. Also, we do not permit deleting posts and comments, and we not permit you to turn off comments (contact RFSAS Admin if you'd like comments turned off).
If you have a problem with a post you feel we deleted unfairly, please direct any comments or concerns to RFSAS Admin directly in a PM.
Some things we DO NOT TOLERATE discussion of: Animal ads (thanks a lot FB), neglect, abuse, selling kits before 8 weeks of age, using horse paste dewormer, scruffing rabbits/carrying and/or picking up by the scruff and/or ears, selling pets at holidays, using motor oil and similar substances on rabbits, breeding or keeping native/wild rabbits in the US, turning domestic rabbits loose to fend for themselves, feeding meat of any kind to rabbits, asphyxiating/drowning/freezing live rabbits, bludgeoning rabbits, feeding rabbits to predators live. We are huge supporters of HUMANE methods for everything especially slaughter. Rabbits shouldn't have to suffer for our hobby or to feed our families. More on our forbidden topics here: http://www.edelweissranch.com/forbidden-topics.html. For some information on better/safer ways to handle rabbits, see the comments in this post: https://www.facebook.com/groups/rabbitsandshit/permalink/579473012735939
We DO permit posts, photos, and discussions related to hunting wild rabbits. This is a specific distinction from feeding domestic rabbits as live prey. The hunting of wild rabbits serves many purposes, including managing population control and providing meat for the table. Your modmin team will use extreme discretion when approving these posts and comments.
This is a MEAT rabbit group. Most of the breeds intended to be meat rabbits are commercial breeds, as well as a few compact breeds (Dutch and Florida Whites for example). Now, any rabbit can be eaten, even teeny tiny polish, but you will see us encourage people to aim for meat breeds if your primary goal is meat. Some people will breed other breeds for meat, or eat their culls, and that's fine. That being said, we will typically DISCOURAGE people from breeding Flemish Giants, Continental Giants, and running breeds for only meat. If you want to do it, go for it, but we ask that you DO NOT encourage others to do it- especially not newbies. To breed efficiently for meat, you should be looking for an ideal meat-to-bone ratio, a good feed-to-meat ratio, and a good dress out ratio. Giant breeds have a very poor meat-to-bone ratio because they have to have a sturdy bone structure to support their large size.
We do not permit transport run notices in this group, as we believe that they are a huge risk for spreading RHDV. There are plenty of other groups that you can share upcoming transports in. Thanks!
If you are going to breed pet rabbits or mutts, then they should still be bred intentionally. They should never be bred just for pretty colors. They SHOULD be bred to improve the parents with every litter. We are not sticklers- while personally, we do think that purebred rabbits are usually superior and we have our own reasons for it, we are fine with you intentionally breeding crosses and pet breeds (not trying to sound snooty here but we are trying to be blunt). But breeding just to breed, unless you are making terminal culls with every litter that are not then bred or sold, is irresponsible. It is every breeder's job to watch for health issues, conformation issues that can cause problems like pinched hips, temperament, mothering abilities, and so on. If you don't know how to spot these, either learn or don't breed. If you think that's too dramatic, find another group to join. If you think it makes us bitches, then so be it, but we don't know many that would condone breeding crappy horses or crappy dogs, so why would it be okay on a rabbit that you aren't going to just cull?
Do not sell or breed for 4-H and FFA unless the rabbit is show quality. Just don't do it. Kids are especially vulnerable to getting crappy rabbits. Just... don't.
"Show quality" means that the rabbit meets certain specifics designed for their breed or, in the case of mutts, body type. These specifics were designed to create the perfect rabbit. Things like straight hips and good teeth should be goals with EVERY litter. Not every rabbit can be show quality when it comes to color but you can damn well aim for good conformation when you breed.
Some of you aren't going to like reading this. I'm passionate about this because your admin team spends a lot of time, energy, and resources helping newbies recover from getting bad rabbits from irresponsible breeders. Don't get upset if you are called out on it. Your modmin team's job is to teach, not to be supportive of bad and irresponsible breeding.
Group is moderated, so play nice in the sandbox. You don't have to agree with your modmin team, but in the end, this is my group and we don't know a single RESPONSIBLE breeder who won't agree with us on most topics. If you need to learn, hit us up, let's talk. If you just can't handle this, we are sure you can find the unjoin button. But we hope you'll stay and learn instead of getting pissy and huffy and leaving. For the record, every word here is typed with love and a willingness to teach.
Blocking any admin or moderator will result in being banned permanently. Please take a moment to ensure that you do not have any of the group admins or moderators blocked. Modmin will use its discretion to remove or block anyone who appears to be an animal flipper, who participates in shady deals, and/or anyone who appears to have a duplicate or fake Facebook profile.
Screenshots with names in them taken from other groups not allowed- black out the names, profile pictures, and any other identifying info.
You are responsible to know the laws in your area pertaining to your livestock.
No reporting unless it's to admin; if you have a problem with a post that isn't spammy, address RFSAS Admin, or even better, scroll on by like a grown-up.
Rules for EVERY ad:
NO ANIMAL SALES, PER FACEBOOK POLICY (https://www.facebook.com/policies_center/commerce/animals)- this includes ISO posts.
If we even suspect that your post is intended to be an ad, we will decline it and/or delete it.
Due to Facebook's ridiculously intolerant rules forbidding sales of animals on Facebook, we cannot permit sales of rabbits in this group. Facebook is shutting down entire groups with no warning because animal ads are being posted. We cannot permit even posts that resemble animal ads. We are sorry it has come to this, it's very unfortunate that Facebook is taking this idiotic stance but we’re stuck with it, and we don’t want our group shut down with no notice.
Post your location (city or zip code is acceptable)
Items & services must be legal to sell
DO NOT re-post the same ad without deleting the old one.
No posting offers to stud out your buck
